What The Papers Say

< Back to news

For the first time in 15 years, a new cleaning technology is being introduced into hospitals throughout the UK to destroy MRSA, Clostridium Dificile and a multitude of other bacteria and spores, with amazing results. In the search for better standards when combating infections, it is the responsibility of manufacturers and hospitals alike to fnd the right solutions.

It is with their groundbreaking systems that Matrix can change the way hospitals tackle outbreaks in the future.

The Matrix technology is aligned to hospital needs in the following ways:

  • Destroys bacteria and spores, increasing hygiene standards
  • Environmental savings (water and waste removal)
  • Health and safety
  • Higher productivity and sta morale
  • Ease of operation
  • Image and perception
  • Microsearch, an independent test laboratory, has carried out research and the conclusive results were as follows:
  • Include the test results
  • To date the Matrix Sanitising machine is the only steam-generating machine that kills both bacteria and spores.
  • Both the ‘Sanitising’ machine and the ‘Deep Cleaning’ Steam machines from Matrix have been included on the NHS Supplies Chain Contract.
  • This is exciting news, particularly with regard to the new products and systems that Matrix has planned for the next 12 months

Matrix is a UK based manufacturer with a phenomenal production and delivery capability. Our research and development team is continually looking at ways to improve systems and applications for the healthcare market.

  • The product is both patient and operator friendly, is quiet, compact and manoeuvrable.
  • One of the excellent features of the machine is that it can be used daily without interrupting or delaying other cleaning processes.
  • The Sanitiser is especially effective at killing bacteria and spores on blinds and curtains whilst they are still in situ, thereby eliminating the need to put the curtains through the laundry system as often as outbreaks currently dictate.
  • Bedside tables, beds and inaccessible areas can be effectively sanitised in seconds, before a new patient arrives.
  • Air vents and radiators can become part of a daily clean process if desired.
  • Operating theatres can be effectively sanitised in-between operations.
  • Whole ward areas can be sanitised without relocating patients and their belongings.
  • Public perception of clean infection-free environments will be enhanced.

Any sort of acceptance towards new technology takes courage and commitment and should engage management and sta emotionally and intellectually.

The outcome of advanced changes in technology, like the Matrix machines, is a more conducive environment for patients and sta alike. This should also show observable changes in attitude and behaviour from the general public.

Hospital sta are challenged with improving their environment, irrespective of their role. The challenge to all senior management is to allow them to achieve these objectives.

Putting the Matrix Sanitiser and steam technology in place will contribute to the continual improvement of standards of hygiene and the reduction of outbreaks of infections in a hospital environment.

UK manufacturer, Matrix Cleaning Systems, has been growing successfully and is making inroads into the Health Service with the introduction of lightweight steam and vacuum machines, which are proving to be a success not only with general cleaning but also in combating the many strains of infection. People want a NHS that is clean and safe and a deep clean programme will help to reassure patients and build public confdence in the NHS with regard to the control of infection.

The range of machines has now been enhanced by the introduction of the Sanitiser. Steam ahead in the NHS towards cleaner hospitals and lower rates of infection For the frst time in 15 years new cleaning technology is being introduced into hospitals throughout the UK. It is this particular ground-breaking system of dry steam cleaning oered by Matrix that can change the way in which hospitals are cleaned in the future.

In the search for better standards of hygiene it is the responsibility of all senior managers to help fnd the right solution in controlling infection. Matrix technology is aligned to workplace needs, particularly:

  • Hygiene standards
  • Environmental savings
  • Health and safety
  • Higher staff morale and productivity
  • Quicker operation of equipment
  • Image

The challenge to all hospital sta should be ‘how can our hospitals be improved and what technology can be put into place that not only contributes to improved standards of hygiene but also reduces infection?’ The challenge to hospital managers is to fnd the technology that will help sta achieve these objectives.

Acceptance towards new technology takes courage and commitment and should engage both management and sta emotionally and intellectually. The outcome of advanced change in technology leads to more conducive working conditions and should show observable changes in attitude and behaviour from sta towards their work and towards each other.

No matter how clean you feel the environment is, how do you know if infections or bugs have been eradicated? People carry and spread potential pathogenic organisms to one another by simple everyday tasks. These organisms can spread and may potentially kill if infections are not decontaminated to the highest standard.

Microbes develop a protection called a ‘bioflm’ which can resist powerful chemical agents for prolonged periods, though it does kill the organism that it is protecting. Typically, 90% to 100% of germs are killed in a bathroom environment after a short exposure of super-heated steam.

Because many infectious agents are present in healthcare settings, patients may become infected whilst receiving treatment. Healthcare workers may be infected during the course of their duties and other people could be infected when working or interacting with patients. By adopting innovative quality control measures and developing eective work practices, transmission of infectious agents can be avoided.

Traditional methods of sanitising are by the use of everyday detergents, disinfectant sprays and chemical compounds. Unfortunately there are several disadvantages to these cleaning agents, namely:

  • No guarantee that the area is completely sanitised
  • Disintectant may be toxic or non-biodegradeable
  • Bacteria may become immune to chemicals
  • Time factor
  • Very expensive disinfectants

Deep cleaning with super-heated steam and a sanitiser will frstly clean infected areas and sanitise for a signifcant length of time, depending on location and conditions. Advantages of this include:

  • A guarantee that all areas accessible and inaccessible are sanitised
  • Non-toxic
  • No-irritating effect
  • Low consumption of chemical
  • Quick usage
  • Operator’s direct contact with surfaces is not necessary and so avoids further contamination
  • Low cost

It has been proven that deep cleaning kills many bacteria, viruses and fungi such as:

  • Staphylococcus and Streptococcus
  • Candida Albicans
  • Aspergillus Niger
  • Cladosporium SPP
  • Klebsiella Pneumonaie
  • Legionella Pneumophila
  • HIV
  • HCV

MRSA and CDi can be added to this list but Matrix are currently undergoing their own tests to confrm and validate this claim.
